Lindsay Lloyd
Regional Program Director, Europe

Lindsay Lloyd Lindsay Lloyd joined the International Republican Institute (IRI) in 1995. He currently serves as Regional Program Director for Europe overseeing programs in Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and a 16-country regional program.

Prior to his appointment as Regional Program Director in April 2002, Lloyd worked for IRI in Bratislava, Slovakia. From 1995 to 1996, he directed a program in Slovakia helping reform-oriented mayors, city council members, and local parties increase communications with citizens. As the country prepared for the 1998 parliamentary election IRI began a program of candidate training, coalition building, and improving party organization and communications. Lloyd worked closely with the leaders and candidates of the parties that now make up Slovakia’s governing coalition. He also coordinated a large public opinion research project and Election Day exit poll. Following the election, IRI established a new project to assist the new government improve communications with its electorate.

From 1999 to 2002, Lloyd served as Co-director of IRI’s Regional Program for Central and Eastern Europe, which is based in Bratislava. The program works in 16 countries (Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia) to strengthen political parties and government institutions. Regional program activities include a variety of seminars, workshops, conferences and consultations for party and government representatives.

Since joining IRI, he has organized and delivered numerous seminars, conferences and lectures across Slovakia, and done similar training in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia and Turkey. He conducted assessment missions for IRI to Azerbaijan, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia and Vietnam and worked on get-out the-vote campaigns for the 1997 Slovak referendum and parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia. Lloyd has observed 15 elections and overseen polling and political consultation projects in Romania and Bulgaria.

Prior to joining IRI, Lloyd spent 12 years working in American politics. After graduating from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, he worked for several members of the U.S. House of Representatives including members of the U.S. House Republican leadership. In addition, Lloyd worked as the Political Director for a political action committee, and for Jack Kemp’s 1988 presidential campaign.
