IRI Re-Establishes Program in Angola
February 25, 2003
Between January 18 and February 2, Robert Miller, IRI's new Angola country director and David Kramer, the former country director, visited Luanda to begin re-establishing operations. Miller and Kramer met with government officials and key opposition parties. Miller also located a possible IRI office, began hiring local staff members and discussed activities with his NDI counterparts.
Miller returns to Angola permanently on February 22 to oversee IRI activities through the election scheduled for fall 2005. Among Miller's first activities include a two-day seminar in June to release the first non-partisan statistical analysis of the last election in Angola. The seminar will also include a discussion of the results of IRI's recently-commissioned political opinion poll and the opening of IRI's political party resource center.
