IRI-Angola Launches New Political Party Training
September 26, 2003
IRI has ramped up its Angola program in recent weeks, launching a new resource center and holding a series of training sessions with political parties to prepare for elections scheduled for 2004.
After a July political party conference co-hosted with NDI, the UNITA party asked IRI to train UNITA’s regional leaders from each of Angola's 18 provinces. At IRI’s request UNITA ultimately invited representatives from several other political parties to participate as well.
As a result of IRI’s training, UNITA has required each province to complete and submit a stakeholder analysis and coalition building strategy by mid-November. IRI has been asked to analyze and comment on the provincial strategies.
IRI will conduct its first party baseline analysis and strategic development workshop with Angola’s political parties in early October. The process will take UNITA leadership through the steps of identification of core values, vision and mission, objectives, and methodologies for review and evaluation.
