IRI Hosts Member of Cambodian Alliance

February 23-24 -- the Honorable Tioulong Saumura of Cambodia visited Washington to brief interested parties on the current political situation. Saumura is a member of the Sam Rainsy Party, the main democratic opposition party, and a member of the Cambodian National Assembly. IRI hosted a lunch for Saumura during her two-day visit, to discuss current political deadlock in Cambodia, the efforts of the Alliance of Democrats to form a government with the Cambodian People’s Party, and the future of Cambodia. The lunch was attended by representatives from the State Department, Senate Offices, and NGOs. Saumura also conducted private briefings with Assistant Secretary of State Lorne Craner, Deputy Assistant Secretary Matt Daley, Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN), staff members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and offices of Senator Sam Brownback (R-KA) and Senator John McCain (R-AZ).
