South Dakota Lieutenant Governor Conducts Women in Politics Training

South Dakota Lieutenant Governor Carole Hillard completed her fourth IRI political training mission in Indonesia and East Timor conducting a Women in Politics (WIP) and party development training in August.
In Indonesia, Hillard conducted a WIP seminar for the Makassar Women's Caucus. While Jakarta, she trained officials from the National Mandate Party (PAN - Partai Amanat Nasional) in platform development and lead a seminar for the national Women's Caucus.
Discussion topics included how more women can run for office and increasing women empowerment in Indonesia.
In East Timor, Hillard trained the East Timorese Women's Caucus, gave a seminar on "Overcoming the challenges of being in Parliament" for members of Parliament. Hillard also conducted party development training for four of the country's largest political parties.
More than 150 participants attended the two trainings in Makassar, and the Jakarta trainings included representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). For a large majority of attendees in Indonesia, it was the first time they had ever participated in an IRI seminar.
