IRI Trains Opposition Coalition Leaders
March 26, 2004
Former IRI director for Russia, Lee Peterson, traveled to Ulaanbaatar to assist the opposition Coalition with shaping its political platform in anticipation of the June parliamentary elections. Peterson met with Coalition leaders Mr. Enkhsaikhan, Ms. Oyun and Mr. Erdenbat to develop campaign themes based on the Coalition's 21-point platform. After the meeting, the Coalition leaders agreed to divide the campaign themes among themselves, with Mr. Enkhsaikhan focusing on social issues, Ms. Oyun focusing on anti-corruption and integrity within the government and Mr. Erdenbat focusing on business issues. Peterson met with other Coalition members to emphasize the importance of message development and tailoring the political platform to their constituency for the upcoming election campaign.
