IRI encourages the growth of politically active civil society organizations and conducts media programming to encourage Afghans to participate in the political process.
Through the Arab Women’s Leadership Institute, IRI provides women in the region with valuable skills necessary to succeed as community leaders, civil servants and elected officials.
IRI provided political parties, independent candidates and civil society with technical training to expand public engagement in the nation’s nascent democracy. However, due to the attacks against international and Egyptian democracy organizations, IRI has been forced to defend itself and its staff in Egyptian court against politically motivated charges.
IRI supports local and national government bodies through capacity building training including assistance with legislation development, and conducts national and local public opinion research to inform policy makers of the needs of Iraqi voters.
IRI’s grassroots-focused activities encourage democratic participation at the national and municipal levels by engaging civil society, particularly women and youth, and preparing political parties and candidates for elections.
To increase political dialogue, IRI supports Lebanese civil society in engaging decision makers and citizens on issues of importance to the electorate.
IRI supports the Libyan political transition process through constructive engagement of citizens, civil society and elected officials to create responsive local governance solutions.
IRI works with political parties on the conduct and analysis of public opinion polling, development of strategic communications plans and design and implementation of issue-based policies.
With the use of public opinion research and technical assistance, IRI promotes the emergence of new Syrian civic organizations and political leaders committed to democratic principles.
IRI supports political parties and civil society as Tunisia transitions from an authoritarian regime to a democracy. Additionally, IRI conducts public opinion surveys at the national level to inform decision-makers of citizens’ concerns and needs.
IRI partners with an independent Palestinian research center to provide timely public opinion research to the media and important stakeholders in Palestinian politics and civil society.
