An active and robust democracy depends on the equal participation of women. For more than 25 years, IRI has recognized the vital contributions women make to the political process. IRI has partnered with thousands of women to provide them with the resources and skills they need to participate more fully in politics and civil society. The Women’s Democracy Network connects women leaders and aspiring leaders with their counterparts around the world to share best practices and learn new skills. Working together, members of the Network are building thriving communities and lasting democracies.
Skills Building
The Women’s Democracy Network conducts skills-building programs and workshops around the world to provide women with the tools they need to participate effectively in the political and civic arenas. Trainings focus on competing in political campaigns, including skills on effective campaign management and message development and delivery. For elected officials, workshops are conducted on how to effectively and democratically govern. Other programs focus on women active in civil society and provide Network members with specialized leadership and issue advocacy trainings.
Mentorship Program
Connecting women to exchange new ideas and information is one of the hallmarks of the Women’s Democracy Network. Through its mentorship program, women leaders provide guidance and support to their younger counterparts who are eager to learn and apply lessons learned in their political party, civil society organization or as an effective legislator.
Annual Conferences
The Women’s Democracy Network provides a unique venue through which active members from can meet one another and share best-practices. A U.S. study tour is held each year in Washington, DC in conjunction with International Women’s Day, and the Network, and its partner, the European People’s Party, hosts an annual European Parliament study tour in Brussels.
