IRI Launches Get-Out-The-Vote Campaign
February 13, 2004
IRI began preparations for its countrywide youth get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort for the upcoming March 28, 2003 parliamentary elections. The effort will include a national poster campaign, public service announcements and eight “Rock-The-Vote” style concerts. IRI has had great success with its programs that encourage greater youth involvement in the electoral process. Results from previous GOTV efforts in Georgia have shown that youth voting is up 30 percent in cities where other campaigns have taken place. IRI will also continue to train party and domestic observers in their rights and responsibilities as election monitors. As part of its pre-election activities, IRI is conducting an issue-based poll to assist political parties with message development, a party lawyer training program to help lawyers pursue election complaints effectively, and a university voter education program emphasizing the importance of participation at this critical juncture of Georgia’s history.
