Boris Nemtsov Speaks at IRI
June 12, 2002
IRI hosted a luncheon for well known Russian political leader Boris Nemtsov on June 12 at the Institute's Washington DC office. Nemtsov, who heads one of Russia's two major democratic reform parties, the Union of Right Forces (SPS), was in Washington for the International Democratic Union (IDU) conference. The luncheon provided a forum for discussion of the current Russian political landscape, as well as ways in which IRI and SPS might develop their partnership to advance democratic change in Russia.
IRI Board Member Alison Fortier presided over the luncheon, which was also attended by IRI Board Vice Chairman Michael Kostiw, Secretary-Treasurer Ambassador J. William Middendorf and Board Member Frank Fahrenkopf.
Other guests included Ross Connelly, executive vice president of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation; Andrew Kuchins, Russia and Eurasia program director at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and Paul Goble, senior advisor to the director at Voice of America.
