IRI Partner Launches Website to Promote Democracy among Youth
April 10, 2006
An International Republican Institute (IRI) partner, Youth for Nicaraguan Democracy (JUDENIC), an organization dedicated to promoting democracy and political participation among youth, launched its website (www.judenic.org) at a press conference in Managua, Nicaragua. Through the website, JUDENIC hopes to help increase youth participation in the political process and promote voter education among youth. The website includes information about Nicaragua’s political news, a calendar of civic and political activities for youth, and invites visitors to join the emerging pro-democracy youth movement.
Reaching out to youth is an important part of IRI’s program in Nicaragua. The country’s voting age is 16 and more than 60 percent of Nicaragua’s population is under the age of 30, highlighting the importance of the role of youth in securing democracy’s future in Nicaragua.
