Poll Highlights Managuans’ Views on the National Assembly and the Government

Managua, Nicaragua – The International Republican Institute (IRI) today released its second poll in a two part series that focuses on Managuans’ attitude toward the state of the National Assembly, the government, and general attitudes on other issues.

“The poll shows that the citizens of Managua think that Nicaragua and its capital are going in the wrong direction,” said Sergio Garcia, IRI Resident Country Director. “It shows that a majority of people worry about the instability of the economy (62.9 percent) and blame the government for the high cost of food, 73.6 percent. The poll also reveals that Managuans want more action and less talk from the opposition.”

The poll was conducted by Datexco Company S.A., based in Colombia from December 15-16, 2007, interviewing 1,005 Managua residents. The margin of error is +/- 2.9 percent. Of those interviewed, 52 percent were women and 48 percent men. The poll targeted Nicaraguan citizens living in Managua between the ages of 16 and 55.
