Statement by Lorne Craner, President of the
International Republican Institute on the Iraq Election
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 30, 2005
"Today is a great day for Iraq and a great day for all those who love democracy. Despite the threat of widespread violence, and a number of attacks, Iraqis went to the polls to cast their vote not just for a candidate, but for freedom. We will not know the results of the election until the votes have been counted and certified, but we can all celebrate with Iraq on a successful election. By taking this brave step the Iraqi people honor all those who have died for a free democratic Iraq."
