Municipal Leaders Learn to Improve Services for Citizens
June 17, 2005
In late May, IRI trained municipal officials in the cities of Salt, Karak and Tafileh on ways to improve services for citizens. IRI consultants along with Mayor Goran Jesic from Indjija, Serbia, conducted a two-day seminar in each city. Mayor Jesic presented his successful experiences improving services for citizens in Serbia (implemented with IRI assistance), including the establishment of a one stop customer service center and the “System 48” response mechanism, which requires Indjija municipal employees to respond to citizens’ complaints within 48 hours.
A total of four mayors, eight elected municipal councilors, and 62 municipal officials from Jordan attended the seminars. Women participants included the country’s only woman mayor, two municipal councilors, and 22 municipal officials.
