Detailed Methodology: City of Kisumu Opinion Poll, May 11-13, 2011

The results of this poll were not released by IRI.  However, IRI is making available the methodology and the demographics to demonstrate that the poll complies with professional standards in the industry.
 
The study was designed, coordinated and analyzed by American Viewpoint, Inc. in consultation with IRI’s Kenya and Washington, DC offices.  All fieldwork was carried out by personnel hired by IRI and trained and supervised by American Viewpoint.
 
The information in this report has been compiled in accordance with international standards for market and social research methodologies.
 

The population under study is representative of the adult population of Kisumu, Kenya (see demographics below).

Data collectors randomized their respondents alternating between male and female and randomized the ages of the respondents.  Each day the completed surveys were checked against gender quotas for each area.

The interview teams were comprised of four data collectors plus a supervisor.  Within each team there were two pairs of data collectors, with each pair comprised of one male and one female, with the exception of one pair which consisted of two females.  Each pair included an interviewer from Kisumu and one from Nairobi.  All supervisors were IRI local staff members.

Face-to-face interviews were conducted.

Sample size: 600

Eligibility criteria: age 18 and older.

The margin of error is +/- 4.1 percent.

The sample was distributed in 11 census regions within the city of Kisumu.

The field work was conducted May 11-13, 2011.
