Detailed Methodology: Survey of Public Opinion in Cantel, San Cristóbal Totonicapán, San Francisco El Alto and San Andrés Xecul, June 6-11, 2009
The poll fieldwork, oversight and analysis were conducted and provided by Dichter & Neira, Latin Research Network, an international polling firm with offices in all Central American countries except Belize, as well as The Dominican Republic. Dichter & Neira is certified by the European Association for the Opinion and Investigation of Markets, the American Marketing Association and Harris Interactive.
The populations under study were men and women 18 years and older of the four municipalities polled.
The poll was conducted using randomized sample determined by village size according to the Guatemalan National Institute of Statistics. Visits to each home were conducted by following a clockwise pattern around each city block, skipping every three to five homes. The interviews were conducted both in Spanish and Maya K’iche (Mayan indigenous language).
Respondents were selected based on age (18 years old or older), their willingness to participate, being a resident in the home polled for at least one year, not working for the government (national or local) and not working for the media. Interviewers polled the first person to come to the door who met the above criteria.
Face-to-face interviews with 2, 100 people were conducted from June 6-11, 2009 (525 in each municipality).
The margin of error is +/- 4.2 points at 95 percent confidence level.
