Detailed Methodology: Survey of Public Opinion in San Cristobal Acasaguastlan, September 3-8, 2009

The results of this poll were not released by IRI.  However, IRI is making available the methodology and the demographics to demonstrate that the poll complies with the professional standards in the industry.
 

The poll fieldwork, oversight and analysis were conducted and provided by Dichter & Neira, Latin Research Network, an international polling firm with offices in all Central American countries except Belize, as well as The Dominican Republic. Dichter & Neira is certified by the European Association for the Opinion and Investigation of Markets, the American Marketing Association and Harris Interactive.

The population under study was men and women 18 years and older of San Cristóbal Acasaguastlán municipality.

The poll was conducted using randomized sample determined by village size according to the Guatemalan National Institute of Statistics.  Visits to each home interviewed were conducted by following a clockwise pattern around each city block, skipping every three to five homes.

Respondents were selected based on age (18 years old or older), their willingness to participate, being a resident in the home polled for at least one year, not working for the government (national or local) and not working for the media.  Interviewers polled the first person to come to the door who met the above criteria.  

Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 535 people from September 3-8, 2009.

The margin of error is +/- 3.9 points at 95 percent confidence level.
