Detailed Methodology: Survey of Colombian Public Opinion, November 9-December 10, 2007
The poll field work, oversight and analysis was conducted and provided by Datexco Company S.A., a Bogota-based polling. Datexco is certified by the International Organization for Standardization.
The population under study was Colombian residents in the Atlantic, Pacific, Andean and Amazon/Orinoquia regions, individuals 18 years and older, heads of household (male and female).
The methodology executed was an area sweep. The route began on the northeastern corner of whichever block that was decided as the first. Once this block was run, the route continued with the blocks that surround the first. Each block was run clockwise. Up to two surveys were done on each side of the block in different homes, meaning that a maximum of eight surveys were taken per block, and 16 surveys were taken per determined area.
To select the respondent, the interviewer first requested to speak with the head of the household. In case of their absence, the interviewer proceeded to request to speak with the housewife. If the housewife was unavailable the interviewer asked to speak to the eldest minor offspring who was living at the residence and was at least 18 years old.
A sample of 2,005 face-to-face interviews were conducted between November 9-December 10, 2007.
The number of interviews conducted per region are as follows: Atlantic 484, Pacific 496, Andean 531 and Amazon/Orinoquia 494.
The margin of error is +/- 2.2 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
