Detailed Methodology: Survey of Thai Public Opinion, March 21-29, 2012
The results of this poll were not released by IRI. However, IRI is making available the methodology and the demographics to demonstrate that the poll complies with professional standards in the industry.
- The poll field work and oversight was conducted and provided by Ipsos, Ltd., a Thailand-based polling company. Analysis was provided by Paul Fallon of Fallon Research and Communications, Inc., based in Columbus, Ohio.
- The population under study were Thai residents (male and female individuals 18 years and older) in Greater Bangkok and eight provinces from four different regions: North: Chiang Mai and Pitsanulok; Northeast: Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani; Central: Rayong and Kanchanaburi; and South: Songkia and Nakorn Srithammarach.
- The multi-stage random procedure was based on four stages:
1. Allocation of the Primary Sampling Units (PSU) to the three segments: Bangkok, municipal areas outside of Bangkok, and non-municipal areas outside of Bangkok based on individuals 18+ years old.
2. Selection of a province in each region based on the size of the province and the geographical location.
3. Allocation of the PSUs to the level of selected provinces.
4. Selection of PSUs by district and sub-district in each selected province.
- In each house, one respondent among the adults 18 years old and older was selected using the Kish grid, with the control of representative quota in terms of gender, age and socioeconomic status (SES). Age and Gender: According to the population figures by province from the National Statistical Office, 2010. SES: According to the Media Index, 2009.
- A sample of 800 in-person interviews was conducted between March 21-29, 2012.
- The margin of error is +/- 3.50 percent at the mid-range of 95 percent confidence level.
