Link Political Parties and People

When politicians’ platforms and policies are centered on real issues, they speak to citizens’ concerns and truly represent society. People must engage in the political process to influence their leaders and help meet their own needs.

IRI consults with politicians on how to respond to constituents swiftly and effectively, and create sustainable solutions to pressing issues. We train citizens in the democratic system so they can proactively get involved in their government. The results are honest communication, mutual respect and shared responsibility.

STRENGTHENING TRANSATLANTIC RELATIONS THROUGH POLITICAL PARTY DEVELOPMENT
Throughout Europe we work to make political parties more responsive to citizens’ needs. Through consultations and trainings, we help parties adapt to the new technological, sociological and ideological realities of the emerging political landscape. This transatlantic effort has involved communications trainings in Bucharest, public opinion poll briefings with party leadership in Macedonia, youth party development in the Czech Republic, and voter mobilization trainings in the Slovak Republic. ADDRESSING CITIZEN CONCERNS IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Since the January 2011 revolution that ended decades of one-party rule, IRI has helped promote Tunisia’s democratic transition by supporting political parties to be more responsive to citizen’s needs.

Combining public opinion research and custom workshops in communications and outreach, we assist Tunisian political parties to develop issue-based platforms. While the country faces a number of economic challenges, made worse by terrorist strikes, it hasn't wavered from its commitment to citizen-centered, responsive government. STRENGTHENING POLITICAL PARTIES IN ASIA’S SECOND YOUNGEST NATION
Since Timor-Leste’s independence was restored in 2002, IRI has become a trusted resource amongst Timorese members of parliament and political parties by helping them develop their democratic institution.  As the only nongovernmental organization to work directly with political parties continuously since 2000, we focus on strengthening the country’s multi-party political system by helping parties prepare for the country's elections.
