Georgian Parliamentary Elections: IRI Observation Mission Features Prominently in Local Media

On October 5, the International Republican Institute (IRI) deployed an international election observation mission to monitor Georgia’s parliamentary elections on October 8. The delegation of short-term observers joined six teams of long-term observers who had been in place around the country since August 1. IRI released a preliminary statement on October 9 which concluded that the elections were “mostly calm and peaceful” and “appeared to reflect the will of the Georgian people.”
