Her dedication to gender equality and ending GBV in Brazil is highlighted below.
What specific work have you done to address gender-based violence?
In 2019, I was nominated by the Avon Institute and Marie Claire Magazine for my efforts in combating GBV in Brazil. As National Secretary for Combating Violence Against Women, I contributed to national public policy programs and observed the significant impact of these policies on women’s lives.
What specific work have you done to address technology-facilitated gender-based violence?
I collaborated with Meta Platforms, Inc Brazil to develop the manual “Women in Politics: Combating Violence on Meta Platforms,” launched in July 2022 with support from the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil, now used by women politicians nationwide.
How does GBV, including TFGBV, impact women’s civic and political participation in Brazil?
GBV and TFGBV intimidate and silence women, creating fear and discouraging political participation. This violence perpetuates gender inequality and underrepresentation in politics, affecting women’s physical and mental health and limiting their engagement.
What do you think are actionable next steps to help eradicate gender-based violence?
Increasing women’s economic autonomy and focusing on early education to promote equality and respect are crucial. Financial independence and educational programs empower women, reduce reliance on abusive partners, and challenge gender stereotypes, fostering a culture of equality and non-violence.
