IRI Mourns the Passing of Bob Dole

December 6, 2021

Washington D.C. – The International Republican Institute (IRI) released the following statement in response to the passing of former Senator Bob Dole:

The entire IRI family is incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of former Senator Bob Dole.

After growing up poor in Kansas, Dole would become one of the most consequential political figures of the post-World War II era.

“Senator Dole was fearless in his pursuit of a better world and a better America,” said Daniel Twining, President of IRI. “He was a champion of liberty and a role model for everyone who believes that our best days belong to the future, not the past.”

As a member of the Greatest Generation, he helped liberate Europe from the evils of fascism, and through a lifetime of public service, embodied what it meant to be an American patriot.

"It was the honor of a lifetime to serve as Bob Dole's National Security Adviser,” said Randy Scheunemann, Vice Chairman of IRI. “He stood for the cause of freedom from Bosnia and Central Europe to Taiwan and East Asia. His example continues to inspire around the world today."

Because of his efforts to support the advancement of democracy around the world, IRI was proud to honor Senator Dole with our Freedom Award in 1998.

His commitments to peace, prosperity, and dignity for all will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
