Alison B. Fortier is a strong believer in the mission of the International Republican Institute. She has participated in election observation missions to Tunisia, Slovenia, Russia and Ukraine. She has actively supported the Women’s Democracy Network through outreach to women around the world in meetings in Washington, D.C., Nairobi, Kenya and Lima, Peru.  

Alison retired from Lockheed Martin in 2013 as Vice President for Strategic and Missile Defense Programs. She began her career as Professional Staff for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States Congress. She later served as a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Legislative Affairs under President Ronald Reagan. 

Mrs. Fortier has served on the Board of Freedom House, on the International Security Advisory Board to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on the Congressional Commission on Secrecy chaired by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and on the Board of Advisors to the Naval Post Graduate School. 

Alison is the author of A History Lover’s Guide to Washington, D.C.: Designed for Democracy published by the History Press in 2014 and A History Lover’s Guide to New York City published in 2016. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William and Mary and holds a Master’s Degree in European history from the University of Michigan.
