Democracy in the Age of Generative AI: Navigating Risks and Opportunities

Join IRI’s Technology and Democracy Practice to discuss the role AI plays in democracy along with its potential risks and opportunities.

Online September 17, 2024 9:30am – 11:00am

Please join the International Republican Institute (IRI)’s Technology and Democracy Practice for a public launch of a new white paper, “Democracy in the Age of Generative AI: Navigating Risks and Harnessing Opportunities.” The white paper is a synthesis of the discussions and findings of IRI’s Generative AI and Democracy Working Group, intended to provide guidance to civil society, industry, and policymakers on how to maximize the benefits and minimize the harms that generative AI poses to democracy.

The event will kick off with opening remarks from Dr. Daniel Twining, President of IRI, followed by a presentation highlighting white paper findings from Hui Hui Ooi, Advisor, and Amanda Zink, Program Manager within IRI’s Technology and Democracy Practice.

The event will then feature a moderated discussion on perspectives from stakeholders in government, industry, and civil society regarding generative AI’s use in their respective fields. Speakers will include Nicklas Badum (Democracy X), Rebecca Thein (BLACKBIRD.AI), and Lavina Ramkissoon (RAIN-Africa). The discussion will be facilitated by Jared Ford, IRI’s Director for Technology and Democracy.

Please reach out to Aaron Spitler, Senior Program Associate with the Technology and Democracy Practice with any questions.
