Indu Tuladhar, a WDN member from Nepal, is an inspiration whose passion and perseverance is creating positive change. Tuladhar grew up in the picturesque village of Bungamati, Lalitpur, Nepal, amidst a tapestry of cultural heritage. As the eldest daughter in a family valuing education and empowerment, she was instilled with a deep sense of responsibility to advocate for those whose voices often go unheard. Witnessing the disparities girls face in accessing education and rights ignited a fire within her that would fuel her lifelong commitment to empowering women.

Equipped with a law degree, Tuladhar embarked on a career path to advocate for women’s participation in Nepalese society. From her early days as a legal aid officer with the United Nations Development Programme to founding the Himal Innovative Development and Research organization, she has been a tireless advocate for a more equitable and just society. Her collaborations with reputable institutions like the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and her role in shaping legal reform have left an indelible mark on Nepal’s legal landscape.

Through groundbreaking research and collaborative efforts, she has advanced gender-responsive policies and parliamentary oversight in Nepal. She adapted WDN’s Gender-Responsive Policymaking Toolkit to create a localized toolkit tailored to the Nepali context for assembly members in all seven provinces in Nepal. This toolkit is still used to train assembly members of the provinces and parliamentarians. Tuladhar’s vision for the future is one of continued advocacy and empowerment. She aims to further her work in post-legislative scrutiny, focusing on gender-based violence, women’s legal identity and women’s rights-related laws. Her unwavering belief in the power of collective action to effect change serves as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of working alongside her.
