10 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence: #HearHerNow and Empower Women’s Voices
Women have a fundamental human right to live free from violence. Whether at home or at work, online or offline, as a voter or as a candidate, women should be safe to use their voices and participate fully in social, economic, and political life.
Increasingly, women are also targeted as they claim their proper place in leadership roles in the political arena. Perpetrators of gender-based violence seek to exclude women’s voices from democracy.
But democracy needs women to thrive. Families, communities, and governments must #HearHerNow, empower women’s voices, and build more inclusive democracies that are responsive to the needs of all citizens.
During the 10 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Women’s Democracy Network is speaking out against gender-based violence and sharing its ongoing efforts to eradicate this barrier to women’s political participation.
