IRI Congratulates Anthony Banbury on Appointment as President and CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems

Washington, DC—The International Republican Institute (IRI) congratulates former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Anthony Banbury on his appointment as president and CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

“IRI extends our congratulations to Anthony, whose remarkable career of service makes him an excellent choice to lead IFES,” said IRI President Daniel Twining. “We also wish to thank outgoing president Bill Sweeney for his nine years of service as president and his devotion to the cause of strengthening free and fair electoral processes worldwide. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Prior to his appointment at IFES, Banbury served in a variety of leadership roles in peace operations, crisis response and national security at the United Nations and with the U.S. government. He served as Assistant Secretary-General for Field Support at the United Nations from 2009-2016.
