Washington, DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) congratulates Dr. Tamara Cofman Wittes on her appointment as President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
“IRI congratulates Dr. Wittes on becoming the new President of NDI. We look forward to strengthening the partnership between our two institutes as we work to advance democracy worldwide,” said Dr. Daniel Twining, President of IRI. “We also thank Ambassador Derek Mitchell for his leadership at NDI and dedication to democratic governance.”
Prior to her appointment at NDI, Dr. Wittes served as the Director of Foreign Assistance at the State Department, Senior Advisor to Sanctions Policy Coordinator Ambassador Jim O’Brien, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
