Washington, D.C.  – On October 6, IRI Regional Director for Eurasia Stephen Nix discussed the implications of Kyrgyzstan’s political crisis following the country’s October 4 parliamentary elections with Al Jazeera. According to Nix, the current turmoil underscores popular frustration over the government’s mismanagement of COVID-19, high unemployment, rampant corruption and President Sooronbay Jeenbekov’s consolidation of power.
