Washington DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the January 6th, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by violent protestors:
“Building a more perfect union at home and supporting democracy abroad are two sides of the same coin. On the anniversary of the violent assault on the U.S. Capitol, we are reminded of the importance of independent political institutions that are backed by free and fair elections and held accountable by the people they serve. There is no place for political violence in a democracy. As tyrannical governments probe for signs of weakness among the world’s free societies, America’s founding ideals of liberty, equality, and justice have never been more important. They are our greatest source of strength, at home and abroad.”
