Washington, DC—The International Republican Institute (IRI) issued the following statement in response to news of the death of long-time member of the National Endowment for Democracy’s (NED) board of directors Ambassador Princeton Lyman.
“We at IRI are saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague Princeton Lyman.
“In his service as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa during the transition from apartheid to democracy, Princeton’s expertise and commitment to democratic values was a credit to the United States. As a fellow member of the ‘NED family,’ Princeton’s insights on the direction of the continent were invaluable.
“We join our colleagues in mourning his loss, and offer our condolences to Princeton’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
