Ayotte: Putin stoking unrest in Ukraine
By Jon Prior
Sen. Kelly Ayotte on Sunday blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for unrest in Ukraine that’s intimidating some voters.
Ukraine is holding elections Sunday, three months after President Viktor Yanukovych was forced from office. And Ayotte, appearing from Kiev on “Fox News Sunday,” said that despite the protests and violence at some polling places, voter turnout was high.
“There’s one person to blame for that security situation, and that is Vladimir Putin,” the New Hampshire Republican said. “Putin is the one who could dial this up or dial this down.”
Putin has said that he would respect the outcome of Ukraine’s presidential elections.
Ayotte traveled to Ukraine for the elections as a delegate of the International Republican Institute.
