Bogota, Colombia – IRI today released its survey of Colombian public opinion along with its analysis of the poll results.  The poll was conducted November 26 – December 9, 2009.  IRI has conducted surveys in Colombia since 2007.  The goal of the research program is to gauge Colombian public opinion and expectations as it relates to national issues and policy matters, as well as the role and responsiveness of Colombian political parties.

The randomly selected sample consists of 1,500 adult men (50 percent) and women (50 percent), yielding an overall margin of error of + 2.53 percent at the midrange of the 95 percent confidence level.  The survey was collected using in-person, face to face interviews by trained professional interviewers.  There was a systematic random selection of 75 sample points in different municipalities throughout the country, excluding the municipalities in the previously designated national territories of San Andres and Providencia islands, and in jungle territories/territories of difficult access.

A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, IRI advances freedom and democracy worldwide by developing political parties, civic institutions, open elections, good governance, and the rule of law.
