In December 2020, the International Republican Institute (IRI) conducted a survey across Kyrgyzstan to understand public sentiment on the October 2020 and January 2021 parliamentary and presidential elections, as well as other topics. The survey measures citizens’ perceptions in the post-election period for the October parliamentary elections and examines public opinion ahead of the presidential election and referendum held January 10. The findings provide stakeholders critical insights into the needs and priorities of the Kyrgyz people.

Methodology

The survey was conducted on behalf of IRI’s Center for Insights in Survey Research by SIAR Research and Consulting between December 12 and December 21, 2020. Data was collected through computer-assisted telephone interviews. The sample consists of 1,200 residents of Kyrgyzstan aged 18+ and the data was weighted for oblast/ city, urbanicity, age and gender. The margin of error does not exceed plus or minus 2.8 points at the 95 percent confidence level and the response rate was 38 percent.
