Washington, DC – The below is a letter that was sent to the editor of Utusan, a Malaysian newspaper, in response to an article dated May 30, 2011, titled ‘PKR become tools of foreign country’:
IRI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan institution dedicated to advancing freedom and democracy worldwide. IRI does not provide direct funding to political parties including in Malaysia, nor does it seek to destabilize countries. IRI’s mission is to develop political parties, civic institutions, open elections, democratic governance and the rule of law, wherever the Institute operates.
To that end, in Malaysia, IRI is assisting both the government and the opposition to improve governance, respond to citizen’s concerns and create a more effective and stable democracy. IRI encourages your readers to learn more about the Institute’s work via www.iri.org, rather than to simply accept the statements made in the aforementioned article.
