Almaty, Kazakhstan – The results of a Kazakhstan presidential exit poll, commissioned by IRI and conducted by The Gallup Organization / Baltic Surveys in coordination with the Social and Political Research Center (Kazakhstan), concluded that 83.2 percent voted to re-elect President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Leading opposition candidate Zharmakhan Tuyakbai came in second receiving 9.9 percent and Alikhan Baimenov 3.2 percent. Mels Eleussizov and Erasyl Abylkassymov both finished with 1.4 percent and 1.2 percent respectively. Election officials reported turnout at 75 percent
The exit poll was conducted nationwide with more than 500 bilingual (Russian and Kazakh) interviewers of Social and Political Research Center, interviewing 23,780 voters at 283 polling stations in all 14 oblasts, Astana and Almaty. Interviews were conducted from approximately 7:30 a.m. until the polls closed at 8:00 p.m. (local Kazakhstan time). The margin of error is +/- one percent.
