Washington, D.C. – The International Republican Institute (IRI) released the following statement in reaction to the death of Nancy Reagan over the weekend:
“Nancy Reagan was Ronald Reagan’s most staunch and devoted advocate, who was the leading voice for the promotion and protection of democracy around the world. In 1997, upon accepting IRI’s prestigious Freedom Award on her husband’s behalf, Mrs. Reagan remarked on his dream that one day, ‘…people of all nations would have the privilege of basking in the light of freedom.’ Mrs. Reagan’s dedication to that dream and to democracy will forever be felt around the world and through the work of IRI.”
