Washington, DC – Judy Van Rest, Executive Vice President of IRI, was confirmed by the United State Senate as a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).
USIP is an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress. Its goals are to help prevent and resolve violent conflicts, promote post-conflict stability and development, and increase peace building capacity, tools, and intellectual capital worldwide.
Van Rest was nominated to the USIP Board by President George W. Bush in October 2005. She has served as IRI’s Executive Vice President since August 2004. She had previously served as IRI’s Regional Director for the Commonwealth of Independent States from 1994 to 2001. Prior to returning to IRI in 2004, Van Rest served as Senior Advisor for Governance for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq. She also served at the Peace Corps as Associate Director for Management and Chief Information Officer and then as Regional Director for the Europe, Mediterranean and Asia Region. She also served in the administrations of Presidents George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
