Alexei Navalny on Receiving IRI’s 2022 John S. McCain Freedom Award

  • Emilia James

Though he was unable to attend the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) 2022 Freedom Award Celebration due to his unjust imprisonment by Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny took to Twitter to accept the award.

Navalny is unable to speak for himself because of his politically motivated incarceration. Nevertheless, IRI stands by the hard work of his entire team, who works tirelessly to push back against Putin’s regime and to bring a brighter future to Russia.

Navalny emphasized that millions of Russians oppose the war Putin is waging against Ukraine. From behind bars, Navalny encourages fellow democrats in Russia to stand up against the corrupt regime in Moscow and fight for freedom.

IRI was pleased to welcome Leonid Volkov to the 2022 Freedom Award Celebration to receive the award on behalf of Navalny, and we will continue to advocate for his immediate release and the release of all other political prisoners.
