Washington, DC – The Board of Directors of IRI is very pleased to announce that the Honorable Lorne W. Craner has been selected by a unanimous vote of the board to be the new President of IRI. Secretary Craner is currently serving as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, and served IRI previously as President from 1995 to 2001.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Senator John McCain, and all the board are delighted that Secretary Craner has agreed to return to the Institute he previously led with distinction. He is, as ever, enthusiastic about leading IRI and working again with IRI’s excellent staff in this critical moment in history for the promotion of democratic values and the rule of law. Secretary Craner will assume the office of President of IRI on August 2.
