Aired: 08/20/2021

On this episode of the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening’s Democracy! The Podcast, participants discuss the elections in Ethiopia and the Balkans amid the global health crisis. Additionally, the President and CEO of the Task Force for Global Health joins the podcast to share his insight into ending the pandemic.

IRI’s own Lauren Oing and the National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) Aubrey McCutcheon offer on the ground information about reactions to the covid-related elections delay in Ethiopia. They also explain how IRI and NDI handled programmatic challenges with partner civil society organizations in a new, virtual format.

Nermin Nisic, from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, shares how timely research in the Western Balkans allowed adjustments to be made ahead of elections to account for the health and safety of voters. Finally, considering these global health concerns, Dr. David Ross speaks to the need for a “routine vaccination program” across the world in order to reach an end to the pandemic.
