The Biden administration is set to host the virtual Summit for Democracy December 9-10, 2021. Government, civil society, and private sector leaders will meet to discuss the state of democracies around the world. Particularly, the summit will encourage countries to make new commitments and reforms towards advancing democracy. The three “key themes” of the summit include:
- Defending against authoritarianism
- Addressing and fighting corruption
- Promoting respect for human rights
Organizations such as the International Republican Institute (IRI) will participate in events surrounding the summit that will focus on these three themes. As a leading democracy development organization, IRI can contribute expert knowledge and on the ground experience to these events.
