Tsikhanouskaya Calls for a Future of Freedom
Washington, DC – Today, the International Republican Institute (IRI) released Episode 2 of its monthly podcast, “By the People,” featuring a one-on-on conversation with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Leader of the Democratic Forces of Belarus. In this episode, Tsikhanouskaya discusses her hope for the future and provides additional insider and expert analysis about the Belarusian opposition movement, and American support for the people of Belarus and Ukraine.
“We deserve to live as free people,” said Tsikhanouskaya. “It is the moral obligation of every person who cherishes democratic values to wish other nations and people to be in the same position.”
Since fraudulent presidential elections in August 2020 and a subsequent democratic revolution, IRI and Tsikhanouskaya have worked to make the will of the Belarusian people a reality: to free political prisoners, bring justice to those responsible for tens of thousands of illegal arrests and inhumane treatment of peaceful demonstrators, and pave the way for free and fair elections.
