Washington, D.C. – On June 24, 2020, U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo announced that the United States would soon expand foreign assistance to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. As funding to these countries resumes, providing democracy and governance assistance will be critical to slowing migration, countering corruption, preventing crime and violence, and advancing the U.S. world order over foreign malign influence. The U.S. National Security Council’s Western Hemisphere Strategy, released on August 16, underscores the ongoing importance of these issues in the region and for the United States
