Nesti Gjeluci serves as the Deputy Director for Business Development where he oversees the day-to-day operations of the Business Development Team and serves as a liaison to IRI’s donors.
Nesti Gjeluci re-joined IRI in 2020 to take over the role of Deputy Director for Europe and moved to his new role as Deputy Director for Business Development in June 2022. Prior to re-joining IRI, Gjeluci worked at the German Marshall Fund (GMF) as Business Development Manager where he cultivated, stewarded and liaised with multiple donors ranging from U.S. government agencies to European governments, foundations and corporations. He also monitored the implementation of multi-million-dollar grants and programs ranging from civil society strengthening to defense and security.
Apart from his experience with GMF, Gjeluci’s professional experience has been closely tied to IRI where he worked from 1999-2014. During those years, Gjeluci has implemented successful programs first throughout the Balkans and Central Eastern Europe and later in Latin America and Asia. He has participated in several election observation missions, led successful assessment missions and implemented programs ranging from institution building, civil society strengthening and political party development including countries spanning from Albania and Romania to Mongolia and Bangladesh.
Gjeluci was born in Albania and came to the U.S. through a graduate school program at the University of Washington, Seattle. He periodically writes and translates articles of interest for Albanian newspapers including the Albanian Daily News, Panorama and MAPO. He has also translated articles from First Things and the National Review and published them in Albanian media platforms. He speaks Albanian and Italian.
