IRI Congratulates Ambassador Derek Mitchell on Appointment as President of the National Democratic Institute

Washington, DC—The International Republican Institute (IRI) congratulates Ambassador Derek Mitchell on his appointment as president of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

“IRI extends our heartfelt congratulations to Ambassador Mitchell, whose formidable expertise and passionate commitment to democracy makes him an ideal candidate to lead NDI,” said IRI President Daniel Twining. “We also offer our sincere thanks to the outgoing president Kenneth Wollack for his more than three decades of service to the cause of human freedom,” said Twining.

Prior to his appointment at NDI, Ambassador Mitchell served as U.S. Ambassador to Burma from 2012-2016, and is currently a senior advisor to the Asia Program at the U.S. Institute of Peace.
