The International Republican Institute (IRI) today announced it will host a multi-party delegation of Pakistani political leaders to monitor the November 4, 2008, U.S. federal, state and local elections in Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland.

During the observation mission, the delegation will meet with local election boards, U.S. political polling companies, leading presidential campaigns, and the U.S. Debate Commission. As elections laws allow active campaigning through Election Day, participants will be able to see rallies, voter contact events and voter turnout activities. The delegation will also meet with members of congress and public policy organizations interested in U.S.-Pakistani relations.

The visit is made possible with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy. IRI and the National Democratic Institute are working in coordination to provide delegates an opportunity to study the electoral system and observe campaign activities as well as Election Day balloting.
