IRI Poll: Employment, Economy Most Important Priorities for Tunisians
Washington, DC – IRI today released its most recent public opinion survey in Tunisia along with its analysis, which showed that Tunisian citizens are unhappy with the current state of their economy and are losing confidence in their current government. Highlights of the survey include:
- Employment, economic development, and living standards were chosen most often as top priorities for the current government;
- Sixty-seven percent of respondents believe Tunisia is moving in the wrong direction; and

Seventy-three percent of Tunisians support ratification through a national referendum, instead of the current process of ratification by the National Constituent Assembly.
This is the seventh poll IRI has conducted in the country. This is the third poll IRI has conducted in Tunisia since the national constituent assembly elections on October 23, 2011. Fieldwork for the poll was conducted from July 26 – August 8, 2012. The survey was undertaken in cooperation with Elka Consulting, a Tunisia-based market survey research firm that was selected by IRI for its capability to conduct surveys throughout the country.
A total of 1,265 interviews were completed yielding an overall margin of error of ± 2.81 percent at the midrange of the 95 percent confidence level. This poll was conducted with support from the Middle East Partnership Initiative.
